City Hall West
My human companion (HC) is involved with the Asian Pacific Islander Cultural Festival going on today from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. out at City Hall West, 950 West Mall Square, and I am required to include that in this report if I expect to be fed.
Actually, I didn’t know that Alameda had a second location where the City conducted its business. Did you? It is really nice out there. All the flowers around the building are in bloom now.
I found a huge flat grass field surrounded by mature trees. It would be a great place to play fetch except for the fact that there is a police substation facing the field. I wonder how much an “off leash” violation would cost my HC.
Other sites of interest included an 1800-pound anchor from 1943 and a historic place commemorating the first flight of the China Clipper in 1935. I wonder if my HC was there?
The big attraction out there is the “jet on a stick” left over from when the area was a Naval Air Station.
On my way back from the base, I walked along Clement Avenue to the Paru Street corner to check out one of Alameda’s most beautiful gardens.
Can anyone tell me what the heck this red box is?
As I continued east and crossed over to Central Avenue, I saw a cute little car with a scorpion on the emblem. It’s called “Abarth.” What’s the scoop with this vehicle?
By the time I got to Park Street I was ready for a . . . PIZZA. However, my HC was foiled when he saw the sign on the door indicating that they were cashless. He hates using a credit card so we decided to look elsewhere.
Troy seemed like a nice alternative, especially with the nice outdoor dedicated parklet.
In the spirit of the “Where am I?” game, I found this sign painted on the side of a brick building. Any guesses where this sign is?
I will close out this week’s report with a discovery I made. Alameda has a model airplane field named after Bill Osborne. Does anyone know who Bill Osborne is, and what he did to get a field named after him?
It is going to be a warm week with Wednesday forecast to be in the mid-70s. Please be sure there is plenty of water in our bowls, remember the sidewalk gets very hot in the afternoon, and please, please, please do not leave any of us in the car for any length of time, even if the window is rolled down. If something happens to you when you just “run in for a second,” we could wind up dead. Best practice is to leave us at home.
