Paint your own pottery, watch a movie, see some amazing bubbles, and celebrate all things dinosaur
There are plenty of activities for adults on the Alameda Post community events calendar, but what about kids? This week, we’re highlighting four awesome events with little ones in mind. On Saturday, November 9, Color Me Mine is hosting a Kids Night Out with paint-your-own pottery, a movie, and more. On Sunday, November 10, join the Alameda Main Library for a sensory-friendly showing of Despicable Me 4. The Amazing Bubble Man is back for one show only at Rhythmix Cultural Works on Sunday, November 10. And be sure to join the West End Library for a celebration of dinosaurs at the November 13 Dinovember.
Kids Night Out at Color Me Mine
Saturday, November 9
Color Me Mine, Alameda’s paint-your-own pottery studio, is hosting a special Kids Night Out on Saturday, November 9, from 6 to 9 p.m. at their studio, 2205 South Shore Center. Kids are welcome to paint, play, and make friends.
This event is for kids only—no parents allowed! The night’s festivities include painting ceramics, playing BINGO, and watching The Little Rascals.
Tickets for Kids Night Out are $35 per child. Color Me Mine hosts a Kids Night Out once a month, so keep an eye out for future events. If you have any questions, please call 510-521-8893.
Sensory-Friendly Family Movie Matinee — Despicable Me 4
Sunday, November 10
Join the fun at the Alameda Free Library, 1550 Oak Street, for a sensory-friendly showing of Despicable Me 4 on Sunday, November 10, at 2 p.m. The free event will take place in the library’s Stafford Room.
The library takes several measures to ensure kids’ comfort during sensory-friendly movie showings:
- The lights are half on and half off.
- The movie volume is lowered.
- Captions are turned on.
- Fidget toys are available.
- Open seating and “wobble cushions” let kids move around.
Attendees are welcome to bring snacks, blankets, and pillows for the movie. The library will offer light refreshments free of charge.
If you have any questions, please call the Children’s Department at 510-747-7705 or email [email protected]. The Alameda Free Library presents sensory-friendly movie matinees on the second Sunday of every month at 2 p.m.
The Amazing Bubble Man
Sunday, November 10
The Amazing Bubble Man performs hundreds of shows across the world every year, and he’s headed to Alameda for one show only on Sunday, November 10, from 3 to 4 p.m. at Rhythmix Cultural Works, 2513 Blanding Avenue.
Audience members will be delighted by the astounding bubble artistry—after all, he’s not called the Amazing Bubble Man for nothing. Prepare to be dazzled by bubbles inside bubbles, square bubbles, giant bubbles, bubble volcanos, tornado bubbles—so many bubble tricks that you never thought were possible.
Tickets are available online for this popular event. If you miss tickets for the Alameda performance, take a look at the Amazing Bubble Man website for other California tour dates.
Dinovember
Wednesday, November 13

The drop-in program will feature dinosaur-themed crafts and activities throughout the afternoon. The event is recommended for children ages 4 to 8. If you have questions, please call the West End Library at 510-747-7767.
