Take a ceramics class, catch a show, celebrate International Women’s Day, and join GrannyCon 2026
The bad news is that we are all losing an hour of sleep this weekend, because daylight saving time starts on Sunday, March 8. The good news is that our Community Events Calendar is full of fun activities to take your mind off of the sleep schedule disruption! On Friday, March 6, join Color Me Mine for Matcha Taste & Create Clay Workshop to make your very own match set. The same night, enjoy some free music at the Mastick Senior Center with Alameda Community Band’s Spring Concert. The fun, local performances continue with the opening weekend of The Foodbank Players’ Much Ado About Nothing, this Friday, March 6, and Saturday, March 7 (Editor’s note as of 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 5: This weekend’s performances have been cancelled due to cast illness). If you’re looking for an exciting scavenger hunt for a good cause, join GrannyCon 2026 on Saturday, March 7. And on Sunday, March 8, celebrate International Women’s Day with an intimate backyard gathering at Renew Collective’s Canvas and Chamomile paint and crafting afternoon.
Matcha Taste & Create Clay Workshop
Friday, March 6
A special collaboration between two South Shore Center shops is scheduled for Friday, March 6. Marlene from Sips Global Teas is making a guest appearance at Color Me Mine for Matcha Taste & Create Clay Workshop. The fun is scheduled from 6:30 until 9:30 p.m.
The evening will begin with a ceremonial matcha demonstration and tasting with Marlene. Guests will learn the significance of traditional matcha ceramics, including symbolism, seasonal variations, and the sensory experience.
After the matcha demonstration, participants will have the opportunity to design and create their own complete matcha set. Color Me Mine’s ceramic experts will guide guests to create a matcha bowl, tea cup, whisk holder, and scoop holder. After the pieces are fired, participants can pick up their set and start using it in their own practice.
Spaces are limited in this adults-only, hands-on workshop. Reserve your spot online for $129 per person. Color Me Mine regularly hosts workshops for both kids and adults, so check out their calendar for upcoming events.

Alameda Community Band Spring Concert
Friday, March 6
Start your weekend off with a pep in your step at the Alameda Community Band Spring Concert on Friday, March 6. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. at Mastick Senior Center, 1115 Santa Clara Avenue. The evening is free, and the event is family friendly.
The Alameda Community Band has planned a “light and wide-ranging musical journey across the world, history, and imagination.” The concert will feature a variety of songs including classic pieces, music from Pixar’s The Incredibles, and a tribute to Irving Berlin.
Alameda Community Band is composed of a dedicated group of volunteers “who have a common interest in playing music and improving their skills while having fun.” They rehearse weekly at Alameda High School to prepare for a series of concerts, presented multiple times each year. If you’d like to get involved, sign up through ARPD. If you have any questions, please email [email protected].
The Foodbank Players Present Much Ado About Nothing
Friday, March 6 through Sunday, March 21

The Foodbank Players return to their Shakespearean roots with their latest production, Much Ado About Nothing. Check out opening weekend at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 6 or Saturday, March 7, in the lobby of the beautiful new Alameda Food Bank building, 677 West Ranger Avenue.
“While the Foodbank Players consider Webster Park to be our home base, the Food Bank will offer many wonderful amenities for the philanthropic theater troupe, including a spacious parking lot, a warm and well-lit stage and seating area, and lovely bathrooms,” writes Artistic Director Gene Kahane. “There’s even a water bottle refilling station for those who wish to stay hydrated.”
Seating at the new venue will be limited to 50 audience members on a first come, first served basis. Admission is free, and donations to the Food Bank are gratefully accepted. See more online.
