Dangerous Bike Paths on Island Drive Need Repair
To the Editor:
I am a teenager living on Bay Farm Island, which does not offer many recreational activities for kids my age. I bike to the main island when I want to hang out with friends. I’ve noticed that the bike paths along Island Drive are almost unusable. There are massive bumps from the tree roots, and trying to ride over them is hazardous. I have to slow down significantly because it puts my bike at risk of breaking, and at other times it has caused me to fall off my bike. To avoid the hassle of the bike path, I tend to use the sidewalk. This puts me and others at risk because pedestrians are not expecting a bicyclist there. I have noticed the City implementing new bike paths, however I feel we need to prioritize repairing this bike path, so bicyclists can ride this area safely.
