An Open Letter to Gold Star Families on Memorial Day

To the mothers, fathers, spouses, and children of the fallen

Dear Gold Star Families,

On this solemn Memorial Day, our nation remembers those who lost their lives for our freedom, and today we pay special tribute to you, the families who were transformed when their loved one paid the ultimate sacrifice. You embrace incredible resiliency that is often unspoken, yet your courage and grace are reflective of the very ideals your loved one served for.

To the mothers and fathers who raised a patriot,
To the wives and husbands who supported their loved ones in every way,
To the sons and daughters whose memories of their loved one will come in stories.

Your loss has not been forgotten. Your burden has not gone unseen.

Memorial Day is not only about the fallen; it also is about those who remain behind. The folded flags, the empty chair at the table, the anniversaries that will come in silence — these are the holy graces of your sacrifice. And while there are no words great enough to change your pain, please know this: Your loved one’s life and service are honored by a grateful nation.

Your loved one stood for honor, duty, and country. And by your love and strength these values will live on.

Today and every day, we remember. We honor. And we will never forget.

With the deepest respect and gratitude,
