Letters to the Editor for June 27, 2025

Thank you for supporting the Memorial Day Ceremony in Alameda

To the Editor:

The Veteran Groups of Alameda would like to recognize and salute the Alameda Community Fund for generously supporting this year’s Alameda Memorial Day Ceremony, which took place on May 26 at the Alameda Veterans Memorial Park.

Alameda Post - Letters to the Editor

Because of the Fund’s support, the burden of financing this significant community activity was lifted from the shoulders of our local veteran organizations — the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 400 and American Legion Posts 9 and 647. The Fund’s support made it possible for the solemn traditions, respectful tributes, and community involvement that make Memorial Day  unique.

Memorial Day is unique among American holidays — it is paid for with the lives of the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice on behalf of our freedoms. No other holiday costs more to commemorate, and no holiday deserves our acknowledgment more.

On behalf of everyone that served, everyone that participated, and everyone that remembers — thank you.

Joe LoParo,
Veteran’s Memorial Day Committee Chair
