Is Alameda a sanctuary city?
To the Editor:
The Wall Street Journal reported that “Trump’s immigration advisers, including designated border czar (Tom) Homan, have publicly discussed cutting off federal grants and even pursuing criminal prosecutions of the officials enforcing sanctuary policies.”
Although the reporting is ambiguous, it does cultivate some concerns and questions.
Has the City of Alameda designated itself as a sanctuary city? If so, does it have contingency plans for actively resisting Trump’s immigration schema? If so, who would be the point of contact, the official designee or action officer for “enforcing sanctuary policies” and who would be at the legal epicenter in the pursuit of “criminal prosecutions” should they be leveled?
In the interest of streamlining justice, these issues should be addressed and answered before ICE enters a tunnel or crosses a bridge to a sanctuary city.
