AUSD: Getting Ready for Graduation and Summer!

Now that spring has sprung and our students are back from Spring Break, Alameda Unified School District is barreling toward the end of the 2023-2024 school year.

The last AUSD school day will be Thursday, June 6. High school graduations and middle school promotions will take place June 5 to June 7, and Alameda’s Adult School will hold its ceremony on June 3. You can see the full schedule of graduations and promotions on the Graduations and Promotions page of the AUSD website.

What’s happening this summer?

AUSD will once again offer its “Algebra Re-Take” summer session to rising 10th graders who received a D or F in Algebra this year. The class is designed to help students get a more solid footing in Algebra, bring their grade up, and improve their chances of math success during their high school career.

A free AUSD summer learning session will also be offered to students who qualify for Free and Reduced Meals, are homeless, or are foster youth. AUSD will also offer an Extended School Year program for students who receive special education services and have summer learning in their education plans.

Our construction team will be busy with six projects this summer—building the temporary campus at the site of the former Lum Elementary School; beginning interior demolition at Wood Middle School; working on both the new Alameda High School swim center and modernizing Kofman Auditorium; constructing new athletic fields for Encinal High School; and upgrading the HVAC and electrical systems at the Longfellow Campus, which houses Island High School and the Alameda Child Development Center (ACDC). We are excited to see these plans come into fruition, and we are grateful to the community of Alameda for approving the Measure B Facilities Bond in 2022.

Speaking of the Child Development Center, the community is hosting a small celebration there on April 19 at 5:30 p.m. to celebrate their new name, new sign, and new Coordinator of Early Childhood Education, Jill Hunter. The celebration will feature a few remarks by AUSD and ACDC staff, performances, and activities for students and families. The public is welcome to join!
