Charges include multiple felonies and firearm enhancements
Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price announced on Friday, June 28, that three defendants—Marionna Makia Haley (18), Isaiah Howard (18), and Sariyah Barker (18)—have been charged with multiple felonies for allegedly carjacking a woman with two four-year-old children inside a vehicle in the city of Alameda.
The carjacking occurred at approximately 2 p.m. on June 26 at 2800 Central Avenue, according to an Alameda Police Department (APD) report on social media. Officers canvassed the area and requested assistance from other agencies. An Oakland Police Department helicopter monitored the stolen vehicle’s movements as it traveled toward San Francisco. The San Francisco Police Department provided assistance while a team of APD officers traveled to the area. When the suspects got to San Francisco, they lost control of the vehicle, attempted to flee on foot, and were immediately arrested.
Each of the three defendants is charged with one count of carjacking and two counts of child abuse. In addition, defendant Haley is charged with a “use of firearm” enhancement. Defendants Howard and Barker are both charged with “being armed with firearm” enhancements, according to the Alameda County DA’s office.
“Children are exceptionally vulnerable to gun violence,” said DA Price. “A gun allegedly being used while children were in the car at the time of this carjacking was dangerous and is absolutely unacceptable in Alameda County. I applaud the law enforcement agencies for swiftly making arrests in this case.”
If convicted of all charges, Marionna Makia Haley could face a sentence of 20 years plus three months in prison, while defendants Isaiah Howard and Sariyah Barker could each face a sentence of 11 years plus three months in prison.
