Patricia Marie Gannon passed away peacefully on October 24, 2024, at the age of 90. Born to Louis and Eileen McKnight Gannon in Texas, Pat grew up in Oakland, California, and lived there and in the city of Alameda throughout her life. She attended Holy Names High School and San Jose State College and then began a long career working for the Alameda Probation Department, serving as the Executive Secretary to the Chief Probation Officer.

Pat was a great traveler, traveling throughout Europe, Central and South America, Africa, and Israel. One of her fondest adventures was in the 1970s, rafting down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon with the Sierra Club. Pat was an avid hiker, birder, and skier, all of which she enjoyed well into her 70s. After retirement, she became active in various Alameda political issues and would speak at City Council meetings, write letters for publication, and actively support local causes. Additionally, Pat became an Oakland Museum docent in the natural history department and enjoyed interacting with visiting children. She was also very active in her parish.

Pat was known personally for her lovely temperament, genuine kindness, and cheerful demeanor. She was a strong environmentalist and supporter of the arts. She is survived by several cousins and many friends. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Basilica, 1109 Chestnut Street, on Friday, January 3, 2025, at 11 a.m. with a reception afterward.
