Irving James (Jim) Blamire, 1926-2020; Joyce Beverly Johnson Blamire, 1929-2026

Irving James (Jim) Blamire, a lifelong resident of Alameda, passed away on February 9, 2020, at the age of 93.

Jim was born on May 16, 1926, in Alameda, California, to Irving and Beulah Blamire. He grew up and was educated in Alameda. After graduating from Alameda High School, Jim was drafted into the U.S. Navy during World War II, where he served his country as an Electronic Technician Mate.

Following his military service, Jim pursued a career in electrical engineering and graduated from the University of California, Berkeley. He worked for Chevron for 37 years, living in various locations across California, Oregon, Alaska, and Florida. Throughout his career, Jim touched many lives and made numerous friends.

Jim was deeply grateful for his friends and was actively involved in various organizations. He was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity, the Alameda Elks Lodge No. 1015, and the Old Alamedans.

Joyce Beverly Johnson Blamire, Jim’s beloved wife, passed away on April 1, 2026, at the age of 96.

Joyce was born on October 21, 1929, in Oakland, California, to Merritt and Irene Johnson. She was raised and educated in Oakland and San Francisco. Joyce attended the University of California, Berkeley, where she met her sweetheart, Jim. She was a proud member of the Kappa Delta sorority. Joyce was a devoted mother who moved with Jim and their four children to eight different locations, including Berkeley, Beaverton, Oakland, Alameda, Sacramento, Lake Oswego, Anchorage, and Florida. She was loved by many for her ability to add spark to their lives.

Joyce and Jim Blamire were married July 29, 1950 in Reno, Nevada. They were married for 69 years. Jim passed away peacefully at home on February 9, 2020, at the age of 93. Joyce passed away peacefully at Golden Years Castle, Reno, Nevada on April 1, 2026, at the age of 96.

Family was important to Jim and Joyce. They enjoyed and were very proud of their four children, Jim Blamire (Anne), Gary Blamire (Greta), Bob Blamire (Kathleen), and Karen Blamire Logan (Newton), seven grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.

Jim’s wisdom: Life is all about who you share it with.

Joyce’s wisdom: Make life fun.

Joyce and Jim were thankful for those they could always count on and shared their love of life.
