Clemence Frances Sweet, 1940-2025

The Rev. Clemence Frances Sweet passed away on February 24, 2025 at the age of 85, in Alameda. Born in Tucson, Arizona, to Robert and Clemence MacIver on January 15, 1940, Frances moved to Alameda as an infant, growing up and making the Bay Area her home for the majority of her life.

Frances was ordained as a deacon of the Episcopal Church in 1989 and she served as the deacon of Christ Church, Alameda for many years. 

Frances was predeceased by daughter, Katya Simpson. She is survived by her husband, Allen A. Sweet, Ph. D., and her children Theresa, John, Martin, and Melinda Simpson (Joseph Huang), along with her dear friend Dolores Guimmayen.

She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. The family is grateful for the compassionate end-of-life care provided by everyone at Oakland Kaiser Hospice. 

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association. 

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 5, at 2 p.m., at Christ Episcopal Church, 1700 Santa Clara Avenue.
