Aurino Gacad passed away peacefully on November 23, 2024, after a long battle with cancer at his home in Alameda. He was born in Bauang, La Union, Philippines on June 2, 1945, the second of 10 children to Eduardo and Genoveva (Picardal) Gacad. He graduated from the Minor Seminary in Vigan.

He joined the U.S. Navy and immigrated to the U.S. in 1968. He married Erlinda Gualberto and settled in Alameda, where they raised two daughters. He retired from the U.S. Post Office, where he worked for 25 years.

Rino was a devout Catholic and active parishioner of St. Joseph’s Basilica. He was involved in the Knights of Columbus as the Financial Secretary.

He is survived by his wife Erlinda, daughters Therese Labuguen and Catherine Gacad, son-in-law Ronald Labuguen, and grandchildren Dominic Labuguen, Benicio Labuguen, and Francisco Barbella. His siblings are Leticia Samson, Teresita Gacad (deceased), Albino Gacad (deceased), Elmer Gacad, Angela Alindogan, Senin Rapatalo, Rex Gacad, Virgil Gacad and Joy Parkos.

Rino’s legacy lives on through countless lives he touched with acts of service—a cold beer offered, a hot meal shared, a ride given without hesitation. He will continue to be honored by his family, friends, and all who were inspired by his generous spirit.

Family and friends are invited to attend the following services:

  • Thursday December 5: 2:30-4:30 p.m Visitation/Viewing, 4:30-5:30 p.m. Vigil with Rosary at St. Joseph’s Basilica in Alameda.
