Few Alameda issues are talked about as much as traffic—and with good reason. Some drivers speed recklessly through our streets, risking the safety of pedestrians, cyclists, and other drivers who adhere to the 25 MPH speed limit. Meanwhile, many of us are frustrated or confused about the constant road construction—designed to protect our safety—that sometimes feels confusing to many of us and changes the way we get around town.
So what can we do about it?
Find out at the City’s 2026 Traffic Safety Open House this Thursday, July 30, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Mastick Senior Center, 1155 Santa Clara Avenue.
Staff from City of Alameda Public Works, Police, and Transportation Planning departments will be there to talk about traffic collision trends and the City’s efforts to improve safety. And they want to hear your comments and ideas, and answer your questions.
What will be discussed?
We’ll hear about traffic safety trends & recent crashes in Alameda. Last year, community members using the SeeClickFix app submitted 411 reports of ongoing traffic safety concerns and near-miss crashes at locations throughout Alameda. We will learn about the latest reports for this year.
2025 Street Safety Concern Reports
We’ll also hear what the City is doing to improve safety, including changes made last year and in progress this year. See the Transportation Plans report for more information about what was done last year and work plans in progress this year.
And of course, there will be time set aside for all of us to share our concerns and ideas.
New this year: e-bikes, e-scooters, and e-moto safety. We’ll learn about the differences between these electric bikes and scooters, what’s required to ride them, and the safety issues that we all need to be aware of in order to keep riders and ourselves safe.

Drop in anytime during the event. Bring the kids! In addition to the discussion there will be light snacks, an information scavenger hunt and raffle, stickers and giveaways, and a children’s coloring table.
