AUSD Votes to Start Phase Out at Bay Farm in August

Alameda Post - On February 14, 2023, Alameda Unified School District voted to phase out Bay Farm Middle School, over strong community objections.

The Alameda Unified School District (AUSD) voted Tuesday night, February 14, 2023, to eliminate sixth through eighth grades at Bay Farm School through a multi-year phase-out, starting in August. The school will now be only kindergarten through fifth grade. Parents, who just learned about the phase-out a few weeks ago, have been protesting and requested that the district wait one to two years. The district denied that request at Tuesday’s meeting, which went past 10 p.m. Officials told KRON4 News that current sixth and seventh graders would be allowed to complete eighth grade at Bay Farm if parents choose. “The decision last night means the multi-year phase out will begin in August by not enrolling for the 64 sixth grade seats that have historically been available,” the officials said.

This is a developing story. The Alameda Post will publish more detailed reporting soon.
