Alameda General Election Update #4: Certified

Alameda Post - a photo of City Hall with the words "General Election November 5, 2024 Update #4 Certified Alameda Post"

The November 5, 2024, General Election is finally over! The Alameda Registrar of Voters certified the election on Thursday, December 5, a full month after the polls closed. Although the process was slow-moving, none of the race leaders changed from our report the day after the election. The 71% turnout county-wide was less than Alameda County Registrar of Voters Tim Dupuis’ prediction of 80%. City of Alameda voters voted at about the same rate of 71%. Both were a dramatic increase over the low turnout for the Primary election in March, where under 35% of county voters and over 45% of city voters participated. Voter turnout was also up over the 2022 General election, where about 50% of county voters and almost 60% of city voters cast ballots.

In City races, because Michele Pryor received the most votes, she will become our next Vice Mayor, and Greg Boller will take the other seat on City Council. Incumbent Trish Herrera Spencer finished fourth in her bid for reelection, and Malia Vella was termed out. Outgoing Councilmembers will be recognized and incoming Councilmembers will be seated at the December 17 meeting. City Auditor Kevin Kearney and City Treasurer Kevin Kennedy again ran unopposed. And for the AUSD Board of Governors, Meleah Hall will take over for Margie Sherratt, and incumbents Heather Little and Jennifer Williams were returned to office.

The following people will be your elected State, County, district, and City officials. State Senator Jesse Arreguìn has already taken office with the start of the new legislative session on December 1. The others will assume office later this month or starting in January 2025. Visit our Resources page for contact information for these officials and other local information.
