After a very slow start from both sides, the Roots took the lead over Miami FC in the 38th minute through a beautifully worked goal from Memo Diaz, assisted by Johnny Rodriguez. It was the first shot on target in the match.

The game opened up when goalkeeper Paul Blanchette was called on to save the Roots lead at 1-0 going into the half, as Miami grew into the game.

The Roots made it 2-0 midway through the second half, when a pinpoint cross from the left foot of Justin Rasmussen found Johnny Rodriguez for his ninth goal of the season.

Frank Lopez struck in response for Miami FC with 15 minutes to go, pulling the game back to within one for the home side, making the score 2-1 in Oakland’s favor.

Oakland held on for the 2-1 victory, keeping pace at the top of the Western Conference standings.

Oakland now has a bye weekend before preparing to face Loudoun United at CSU East Bay Pioneer Stadium in Hayward on August 10 at 7 p.m.
