Oakland Roots Fall to Phoenix Rising 1-0 on the Road

Phoenix Rising took a second-half Panos Armenakas strike and rode that to a one-nil victory over visiting Oakland Roots on Saturday, March 23, in Phoenix, bringing the Roots’ record on the season to 1-1-1 (1 win, 1 draw, 1 loss).

The game was quiet early, with neither side creating a major chance until the final 15 minutes of the first half. Phoenix Rising created two dangerous chances that forced big saves out of Oakland Roots goalkeeper Paul Blaunchette in the final 15 minutes of the half, but the match remained scoreless into the halftime break.

Phoenix got on the board early in the second half through Panos Armenakas in the 48th minute following some quick one-touch passing to set him up and give the host the 1-0 lead. The home team held onto the one-goal lead until the end of the 90 minutes, securing all three points.
