Jeff Smith’s Math Puzzle for April 18, 2025

And they shall twist their paper clips into Orwellian polygons

Alameda Post - a paperclip with an arrow pointing to a triangle with another arrow pointing to a square, all in a row

Tristan reforms his Grandfather’s last remaining paper clip into regular polygons.
First, Tristan bends the paper clip into an equilateral triangle.
The equilateral triangle has an area of 1527.283912 square millimeters.
Then, Tristan bends that same paper clip into a perfect square.
The wire used to manufacture the paper clip has a diameter of 1 millimeter.
The density of the wire metal is 7.87 grams/cubic centimeter.
Find the area A of the square and the mass M of the original paper clip.

A = ______ square millimeters   M = ______ grams

First correct answer received at [email protected] wins a Tucker’s Gift card.

Last week’s winner was Dalton Armstrong with A = 41125 square inches.
