Future public art location survey needs input by June 7
The City of Alameda Public Art Commission (PAC) has announced awards of grants totaling $60,000 for the 2024-2025 fiscal year. Awards were available for performing arts, literary arts, film and video, screenings and installations, arts education, art lectures, presentations, special events, and artist-in-residence programs.

Awardees were determined at a special PAC meeting on May 28, 2024. Grants of $10,000 each were awarded to Rising Seas, Together in Motion, RE-CYCLE, and Asian Pacific Islander Cultural Festival. Grants of $5,000 each were awarded to Rhythmix in the Parks, Fiesta Alameda, Alameda: Here is Anywhere, and La Bayadere.

Would you like to see more public art in parks near your workplace, home, where you shop, or just enjoy the outdoors? Tell the City where you want it! The Public Art Survey is gathering input from people who live or work in Alameda about where they want to see future public art in and around town.

This survey was designed by Jack Denham Conroy, the public arts fellow for the City of Alameda. The locations listed on this survey were narrowed down from an initial 40 locations suggested by City staff for the Public Art Master Plan. This process utilized five criteria: Accessibility, Visibility, Geographic Equity, Safety, and Environmental Suitability.

Façade Grants help spruce up local businesses
The City’s Façade Grant Program also has awarded 11 grants totaling $53,850 and leveraging over $92,600 in private investment to six businesses located in the Downtown Alameda Business District, one in the West Alameda Business District, and four in other commercial properties across the city.
Through 50/50 matching grants up to a maximum of $15,000, the Façade Grant Program helps local business and property owners spruce up their storefronts and improve the appearance of the City’s retail districts.
