Rotary Club Plants 22 Trees in Leydecker Park, Invites Community to Help

On Saturday, February 21, the Rotary Club of Alameda and Community Action for a Sustainable Alameda (CASA) brought their commitment to environmental stewardship to life by planting 22 trees at Leydecker Park. The project, completed in partnership with 100K Trees for Humanity, and the Alameda Recreation and Parks Department, reflects Rotary’s hands-on approach to strengthening the local environment and community.

Under clear skies, Rotarians worked side-by-side with community volunteers and the Kindness Coalition to plant, stake, and water the new trees, an investment that will provide shade, beauty, and environmental benefits for decades to come. In 2025 CASA was awarded a Rotary Club of Alameda grant to help cover tree costs, with additional support from Rotary District 5170 and Alameda Municipal Power.

Environmental stewardship is a special focus of the Rotary Club of Alameda, aligning with Rotary International’s seventh area of focus: Protecting Our Environment. In addition to tree plantings like this one, the Club organizes shoreline cleanups, fruit tree sapling giveaways, and community lithium-ion battery recycling events. These projects are practical, visible examples of how Rotary members turn shared values into meaningful local action.

Looking ahead, the Club will host a lithium-ion battery recycling event at Alameda City Hall Plaza on May 16 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. as part of Rotary’s EPIC Day of Service, a global day when Rotary clubs worldwide come together to serve their communities.

If you’ve been looking for a way to give back, meet engaged community members, and help shape a greener, stronger Alameda, the Rotary Club welcomes you. Also, stop by and visit the Rotary Club table at the Alameda Recreation and Parks Department Spring Shindig and get a fruit tree sapling (while supplies last).
