Meet the Grumpy Old Man, Bentley

Pet of the Week for February 8, 2025

When Bentley gives you the side eye with his one light blue eye (the other is brown!), you’ll know you’re in the presence of a dog who tells it like it is.

This fluffy 14-year-old is lovingly referred to as a grumpy old man by FAAS staff. He can be standoffish at first—in fact, he can seem downright suspicious of anyone new. Sometimes he’ll even go so far as to nip in the direction of strangers who try to pet him.

To put it bluntly, Bentley is not much of a people pleaser.

But there’s a lot of good about this old boy. Once he warms up, and trusts you, he seems to enjoy getting pets. He also loves being brushed. And he gets on well with chill dogs who aren’t too big.

Bentley is currently in a foster home with another dog he seems to consider a friend. Even that dog may get the side eye sometimes, but otherwise they get along fine.

If you’d like to meet Bentley, please call Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter at 510-337-8565 to arrange a visit.
