Pet of the Week for September 21, 2024
During his brief time as a stray, Firework had a really rough time: He starved, lost an eye, and caught feline calicivirus (FCV), a highly contagious upper respiratory infection that rots teeth. After he was rescued by a kind citizen, he was hospitalized and had to have the rest of his teeth pulled.
But this stalwart 1-year-old has recovered beautifully, and he is living the good life in a foster home. But, as much as he’s adored there, he needs to find a home he can be in forever.
Firework has the heart of a lion, and appears undaunted by what he’s been through. He is gaining weight, and spends hours happily batting around his ping pong ball. He’s happy and friendly, and a joy to watch.
His foster mom says he acclimated quickly and is an independent but cuddly kitty. “He loves sleeping on his pink blanket under the bed and exploring every nook and cranny available. If you pet him under the neck and chin he purrs like a dove and will show you his belly,” she says.
Because he now carries the FCV virus, Firework needs to be the only feline in the home and must be an indoor-only cat. (Other pets and humans cannot catch FCV.)
