Let Us Eat Cake
This week I celebrated my fourth Gotcha Day here in Alameda. For those of you who are not familiar with a “Gotcha Day,” it is the day that an animal finds their forever home. It was February 2, 2021 that I was officially adopted by my HC (human companion) and got the job as the Roving Reporter for the Bear’s-Eye View of Alameda.
As some of you know, I came to Alameda from the Solano County Animal Shelter in 2020 as part of a multi-canine transfer when the LNU Lightning Complex fires were happening. I was so lucky and spent over 7 months at Chateau FAAS. During that time, I was given the very best care and received lots of attention from the very dedicated staff. I will never forget the time I spent there, and I will continue to be grateful for having the good fortune to be taken to Alameda.
As a way of expressing my eternal gratitude to all those folks that are part of the FAAS family, I took the opportunity to go back to the shelter and thank them personally for all they do for the shelter animal community. This year, I brought my Gotcha Day cake over for a combo Gotcha Day and staff appreciation party.
I recognized a few folks from the old days, and everyone was so happy to see me. I was getting lots of rubs and giving lots of wet slobbery kisses to anyone that would let me.
I even got a special butt scratch from John Lipp. He’s the big dog at the shelter and keeps things in line. I learned that he will be retiring in June, and I was a little sad because he has had such a positive influence on the FAAS operation. He will be missed by so many.
Since this was my special day, I did manage to get a small piece of cake and some frosting. It was delicious.
To say that the cake was well received would be an understatement. By the time I left, the last piece was being eaten directly off the serving board.
As a FAAS alum, I know firsthand how stressful life can be in the shelter no matter how good the care is. I really appreciated the staff attention and the walks that I got from all the great volunteer walkers, but what I wanted the most was a forever home. I checked with FAAS and made a list of the furry friends that have been in the shelter for a while. Check out these cuties and please consider taking one for a “test drive” as a foster. You can contact FAAS directly to learn more about adoption. If you are seriously interested in taking one of these canine companions home on a permanent basis, I will cover the cost of the adoption fee. Just contact my HC at jeffcambraalameda@#gmail.com to get all the details worked out.
After getting a few days off for my Gotcha Day, I will be back on the Alameda scent next week.
Hope everyone has a great week.
