The Bay Area Walk4Hearing 5K event returns to Alameda for the fourth year on May 18. The beautiful bayside walk to raise awareness about hearing health and hearing differences starts at Crown Memorial Beach (Eighth Street and Otis Drive) and proceeds along Shore Line Drive with turnarounds at Grand Street and Park Street.
The event, led nationally by the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA) and locally by Alameda Unified School District’s Deaf/Hard of Hearing (DHH) program, is planning a fun morning for all registered walkers.
Registration starts at 9 a.m, followed by a welcome address from Mayor Marilyn Ezzy Ashcraft at 10:30 a.m. and the national anthem sung by a guest singer. Then there’s a group stretch warmup. A huge balloon arch will kick off the walk at 10:45 a.m., and Alameda High School cheerleaders will be on hand to encourage the walkers.
Some of the fun activities at the event will include:
- Free Kona Ice truck to registered walkers.
- Free pizza at the Munch and Mingle tent.
- Free energy and hydration snacks/drinks.
- Elmo the DJ (not the Muppet).
- Face painting.
- Balloon artist.
- A huge balloon arch to kick off the walk
- Vendor Expo on listening devices and services
