“This week, we became aware of permit applicants receiving calls from individuals claiming to be employees from the City of Alameda,” the alert stated. “The callers are requesting payments for permit fees, stating it is required for processing permits under the Permit Center’s new system.”

The City posted a social media alert as well, noting that the scammers claim they need to put a credit card on file.

“The City of Alameda DOES NOT call permit applicants to request payments over the phone,” both the City and APD stated. “If you receive such a call, do not provide any personal information. You can verify the authenticity of the call by contacting the City of Alameda’s Permit Center at 510-747-6800.”

If you believe you have been the victim of any scam, call the APD non-emergency line at 510-337-8340 to file a report.
