Pierre’s Birthday Fund Helps Hospitalized Kids Celebrate Birthdays

Pierre Schreyer was born in Paris. His family moved to California when he was three years old. Doctors diagnosed him with Stage 4 Neuroblastoma when he was a junior in high school in 2013, and he spent his 17th birthday at Children’s Hospital in Oakland. His stay inspired him to create “Pierre’s Birthday Fund,” which offers hospitalized children and teens personalized gifts and parties to commemorate their special moments.

When Pierre passed away in 2015, the birthday fund became Pierre’s Birthday Fund, a 501c3 nonprofit to carry out his vision to support children struggling with their health. The fund works to enrich the lives of Bay Area children hospitalized with severe, life-threatening illnesses.

The core program celebrates every hospitalized child’s birthday, as well as providing supplies and staff needed for massage and acupressure therapies, weekly closed-circuit TV Bingo, “Beads of Courage,” and art therapy. The birthday fund will host its annual gala on Friday, July 21 at 5:30 p.m. in the Ohana Room, the top floor of San Francisco’s Salesforce Tower. Tickets for the event cost $250 and are available online at the Pierre’s Birthday Fund Gala website.
