Alameda Police Department (APD) detectives are continuing their investigation into thefts potentially connected to fencing operations.
On March 26, the department reported that they had arrested suspects and recovered thousands of dollars’ worth of merchandise stolen from businesses at South Shore Shopping Center and on Webster Street on March 17. The APD investigation led to the discovery that stolen merchandise was being delivered to businesses at various locations and resold through an illegal resale network—a fencing operation.
As the APD probe continued, several reports indicated stolen truck tailgates also were believed to be resold through fencing operations, according to information APD posted on Facebook. On April 3, after a thorough investigation, APD officers and detectives executed a search warrant at a residence in another jurisdiction. During the operation, several tailgates, thousands of dollars in cash, several rounds of ammunition, and several firearms were recovered. Two people were taken into custody, and detectives are in the process of contacting victims.
Based on the stolen items and reports, Toyota Tacomas appear to be the primary target of these thefts.
APD continues to follow up on leads into other businesses and entities that may be involved in these activities.

- Park in a secured garage when possible.
- Always secure truck beds and valuables.
- If possible, reverse park into spaces and position the back of your vehicle close to a wall or garage door.
- Ensure alarm systems are activated.
