Over the past few weeks, the Alameda Police Department (APD) has seen an uptick in reported package thefts, according to an August 21 report on Facebook.

“While online shopping can be convenient, it can also create opportunities for thieves,” APD stated in the report. As a refresher, APD offered a list ways to help protect your next delivery from being stolen:
- Use secure options like Amazon Lockers or delivery pick-up sites. There are several options located around town.
- Schedule deliveries when you are home.
- Ask a trusted neighbor to collect your packages.
- Work with your HOA or property manager to help establish secure drop-off locations at your complex.
- Install a delivery lockbox or create a hidden spot for packages. Be sure to provide clear instructions for delivery drivers.
- Require a signature upon delivery, especially for high-value items or medications.
- Position cameras to monitor packages.
- If you are out of town, place a temporary pause on your mail.
“If you are the victim of a theft, report the incident to the Alameda Police Department right away at 510-337-8340,” APD noted. “Stay alert, stay connected with your neighbors, and help us reduce package thefts in Alameda.”
