Firefighters called to Capture Technologies for sixth time in two years
Alameda Fire Department (AFD) responded to a commercial structure fire along the Oakland side of the estuary on April 30 at 3 p.m. as part of a Mutual Aid Request to assist the Oakland Fire Department. AFD came prepared with one engine, several firefighters, and a fire boat, according to an AFD report on Facebook.
The fire was in a commercial building at 3575 Alameda Avenue, on the waterfront across from Alameda, just south of Fruitvale Avenue. Firefighters have been to this address six times over the last two years, Oakland Fire Battalion Chief James Bowren told KTVU News. The building had previously been red-tagged by the City, Bowren said. A sign on the building reads Capture Technologies.
“With knowledge of this hazardous property from previous incidents, crews went defensive, meaning no one went inside during the initial fire attack,” the report stated. More than thirty firefighters were at the scene, including both Oakland and Alameda crews.
The fire was under control by 3:45 p.m., Bowren said, and there were no reported injuries.
How the fire started is unclear. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
