Introducing Our New Word Puzzle

Today I am pleased to introduce a new feature of the Alameda Post, an Alameda-themed word puzzle called Wordameda!

The gameplay for Wordameda might be familiar to some of you—players have five guesses to determine a five-letter word, with clues given after each guess. Our twist is that all the word puzzles are Alameda-themed. Each week’s common theme is given at the top of the puzzle. Guesses and answers can be any valid five-letter word. An added wrinkle is that sometimes the answer can be a proper noun, such as for the upcoming week’s theme of local street names.

How to play

Play Now!

The theme for the first week of Wordameda puzzles will be Railroads, which are a rich part of Alameda’s recent history that Dennis Evanosky has covered extensively in our pages. A new puzzle will be posted every day on our Wordameda page. An archive of previous days’ puzzles will be available in case you miss the chance to play on any particular day. Future categories will include local wildlife, geography, streets, and more. There is also a built-in feature that allows you to share your daily score to social media, so you can challenge and keep up with your friends. Make it a part of your daily routine!

How to contribute

For readers: Are you good at coming up with five-letter words that have a common theme? Do you have enough knowledge of Alameda to come up with groups of Alameda-themed words? If so, please email me your list of seven to 10 words and their theme. If we choose yours for a week of Wordameda puzzles, you’ll receive a handsome new Alameda Post coffee mug to enjoy a beverage while you sit out that week of gameplay.

For businesses: We are looking for sponsors for our Wordameda word puzzle page. Please get in touch with me to discuss opportunities for you to show your support and increase your visibility.

The software behind the game is developed by Flying Comet Games, a custom game development firm which just relocated to the East Bay from Seattle. We are one of their first partners, and you can learn more about them in this profile from GeekWire.
