Pet of the Week for April 19, 2025
Did you ever know someone who is truly wonderful, but initially comes across as reserved, even aloof? That’s Bernie, FAAS’s handsome two-year-old husky mix.
Huskies are not known for being warm and snuggly, so if you’re looking for a cuddly companion, Bernie may not be your guy. But Bernie is cool. He loves the outdoors and big hikes/walks. He can do energetic outings or leisurely strolls.

Bernie is also gorgeous, with one bright blue eye and one brown eye, and a tawny coat that’s shorter than a typical husky’s and gives him a unique appearance.
It takes time for Bernie to warm up, but once he does, you’ll see his sweet, playful, fun side. He delights in squeaky toys and rope toys, and can entertain himself for hours.
If you’re ready to open your heart to Bernie, and know it may take time to see who he really is underneath that initially aloof appearance, he’s waiting to meet you at Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter, 1590 Fortmann Way. Visiting hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.
