The ‘Starr’ of the Show

Pet of the Week for February 22, 2025

Starr recently had a medical emergency, and it was touch and go for a while. But Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter [1] didn’t think twice about investing in her extensive veterinary care, because that’s what they do.

We’re happy to report that not only did she survive, but she’s good as new. She’s got a clean bill of health and is longing to go home with someone forever. Let us tell you more about her.

This gorgeous two-year-old German shepherd is a great listener—her ears were built to hear anything you want to tell her, and she won’t tell anyone else!

Starr is gentle, sweet, and loves soft ear scratches and a good cuddle. She might seem a bit aloof at first, but so can a lot of wonderful people who are shy. Give her a little time and you’ll see the amazing girl we see:

As one volunteer who walked her said, “Once she relaxed, she let me know that she’s a snuggle bear. Very delicate and gentle. She is an amazing girl.”

Starr has had mixed reactions to other dogs so at least for now, she should be your only pet. And as a reminder, FAAS provides $200 of dog training to all canine adopters.

You can meet this sweet survivor from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday at the FAAS main shelter, 1590 Fortmann Way.
