Pet of the Week for January 27, 2024; Come to the foster open house today at Fortmann Way
For our first Pet of the Week, we figured we’d go big! Today, we bring you one of our favorites – Mork!
[1]At 105 pounds, this one-year-old Dogo Argentino [2] is our biggest dog, but he seems to think he is a lapdog. We let him hang out with us in our offices and he loves to snuggle in close. If he could, he would be on our laps all the time.
We have joked that he would be great for someone who thinks their head looks too big in photos; his huge head would make anyone’s head seem smaller as he strikes a happy pose for the camera. In addition to that “perk,” he’s a super sweet, fun, good boy with an endearing smile. And he’s striking to behold! He seems to be good with other dogs and would likely be fine in a household with kids.
His sister is here at the shelter, too [3]. Her name is Mindy. She is a carbon copy, just a little smaller than her brother, and if possible, she has an even more amazing smile.
[4]Come and meet Mork in person during FAAS’s adoption hours, Tuesday through Sunday from 12 to 4 p.m. at 1590 Fortmann Way. You can learn more about him on his page on the FAAS website [5], and you can fill out an adoption-interest form, if you think he might be the newest member of your family. Questions? Call us at 510-337-8565.
[6]We’re so happy to be working with the Alameda Post to help get our dear shelter animals more exposure and a better chance at adoption. A big thank-you to Publisher Adam Gillitt and the whole Post team for helping these good boys and girls get a paw in the door of potential forever homes.
Urgent need for fosters; expedited process
Currently at the shelter, there are zero kennels left for dogs, and even our isolation kennels will soon be full. FAAS needs the community’s help so they can keep their doors open for the stray and lost dogs who will land at our doorstep with nowhere else to go in the coming days and weeks.
To help empty the shelter, FAAS is hosting a Foster Open House where you can come in and be matched with a dog in an expedited foster process. If you’ve ever wanted to try fostering, this is the time! Your commitment doesn’t have to be long. Just enough to get us through this kennel shortage. The dogs will be grateful for a little vacation from kennel life and you will have helped us get through this emergency.
[7]FAAS will provide everything you need, including food, bowls, walking equipment, dog bed, and toys, as well as behavior support. Plus, FAAS will cover any medical expenses as well.
Please come to the shelter at 1590 Fortmann Way, Alameda, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m today, Saturday, January 27 and we’ll try to find you a match! Please share widely. Contact Monica Fischer, FAAS community engagement manager, at [email protected] [8] or 510-337-8571 if you have questions.
Editor’s Note: The Alameda Post has partnered with Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter (FAAS) to showcase some of their many adoptable pets. Every Saturday morning, we will share a different dog or cat (or bird, rabbit, guinea pig or…) who needs a new home in our Pet of the Week feature. FAAS is overflowing with dozens of pets who are still looking for permanent, loving homes. Even if you can’t adopt a pet permanently, you might open your home to a foster pet, or make time to walk one of the dogs [9] who needs some outdoor time. Visit FAAS’s website [10] for more information on those programs and ways you can volunteer.
Maria Goodavage is the Communications Manager for Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter.
