The Big Day and more decorations

Alameda Post - Mouf the dog and his human companion wearing raincoats [1]

As a canine reporter whose only assignment was to check out as many holiday decorations as possible, the weather proved to be a big barrier to me getting around the city. Singing in the rain may be a fun thing to do if you are Gene Kelly, but if you’re a roving reporter trying to take pictures in the rain with a human companion (HC) that has a bad knee, just getting ready is a major undertaking. First, there’s putting on the harness, then the raincoat, then the Nox light, then the gentle leader, and finally the leash.

I did manage to get out to document some great yard displays. I want to thank Debbie Damele for the Oyster Shoals yard tip and Bob Fintland for his suggestion to visit Courageous Court. Both locations are included in these videos, along with my citywide coverage.

I made a special trip to Charlotte’s house on a sunny day to cover her yard, because there is so much to see. She does a great job for every holiday!

Christmas Day was a great day for me, because all the treats in the FAAS Stocking Stuffer Project [2] were distributed to the furry buddies spending the holiday in the shelter.

Almost as good, I got a Dragon from Auntie Carin and Uncle Les. It provided me with a great shredding opportunity.

They also gave me a German shepherd ornament for the tree, but my penny-pinching Scrooge of a HC didn’t buy a tree this year, so I had to hang it on the latch to the treat cabinet instead.

One of my favorite Christmas toys turned out to be the Santa hat I used for the kitchen photo [6]. I love flinging it around the room and getting smacked in the head by the white furry ball. It’s exhausting but hecka fun.

The 25th was the day that I got to finish up my Advent calendar of treats, and I learned from a friend that there are other celebrations where gift giving is part of the tradition.

Jackson Kahn was telling me about another seasonal celebration, called Hanukkah, where you get a present a day for eight days, which started on Wednesday. Not sure how I missed this, but you can be sure I will be jumping on this eight days of gifts business quickly since I am already a few treats behind in the process. Check out my report next week for more details.

Finally, if you are wondering about the Gene Kelly reference—that my HC made me put in this report—and have no idea of what he is talking about, here’s a link to a Youtube video [9] that will explain everything.

Looking forward to the possibility of another eight treats!
