StopWaste is offering $1.1 million in grant opportunities [1] to nonprofits, businesses, and institutions with projects aimed at increasing individual, business, and community involvement in the prevention of waste in Alameda County. Applications are due no later than March 3, 2023 at midnight. Grantees will be announced May 18, 2023.
[2]There are several grant funding opportunities available, including:
- Food Waste Prevention and Recovery Grants [3]. These grants fund innovative projects that incorporate food waste prevention and the recovery and redistribution of food for donation.
- Reuse and Repair Grants [4]. These grants fund innovative projects that incorporate reuse, repair, deconstruction, product or process redesign, reduction, recovery, and redistribution of goods, and other materials.
- Surplus Food Donation Equipment Grants [5]. These grants provide funding to support the recovery or donation or surplus edible food that would otherwise go to waste, thereby increasing capacity for businesses to donate food and/or organizations to receive more food, safely transport, and distribute food for donation.
- Reusable Foodware Grants [6]. These grants provide funding for innovative projects that replace single-use, disposable foodware with reusable systems.
- Reusable Transport Packaging Grants [7]. These grants provide funding to prevent waste by replacing limited-life packaging used in manufacturing, transportation and/or distribution with durable alternatives, designed for many years of use.
- Community Food Systems Grants [8]. These grants fund community-rooted and driven projects that address gaps and shortfalls of the industrial food system.
