Pet of the Week for July 5, 2025
Our Pet of the Week feature is usually dedicated to four-legged residents of Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter. But today we bring you a winged wonder named Skeeter [1].
[2]This beautiful blue, green, and yellow parakeet is currently living in a cage in the front office of FAAS, and filling it with endearing, chirpy song.
He’s a sweet, gentle, curious boy looking for a comfy home where he can be a cherished member of the household. FAAS staff members think of Skeeter as sunshine with wings because of his coloring and how he brightens the day there. Imagine that in your own house!
Parakeets make great pets. They’re smart, friendly, and rather easy to care for. They love company and do best with lots of attention or even a parakeet friend if you’re often out. Give them healthy food like pellets and fresh veggies, and a big cage with fun toys. Keep their cage clean, and watch for any signs they might be sick. With good care, they can live for 5 to 10 years.
If you’d like to meet Skeeter, head over to Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter, 1590 Fortmann Way, during their new hours of operation: Wednesday and Thursday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Please note: The shelter is closed daily from 1-2 p.m. for naptime for the four-legged (and winged!) residents.
