Bear’s-Eye View of Alameda for April 28, 2024
[1]
The big news in Alameda this week—at least from my perspective—is that my human companion broke ground for the new deck off our kitchen. It has been years in the planning—and almost the same amount of time to get the money together. It will be built out of real kiln-dried con heart redwood, which is as expensive as a new car is these days.
Here is a short video showing how the concrete pad was constructed. It will cure for a week before the carpenters come back. I am looking forward to using the dog door to get out and chase those pesky squirrels that run along our fence.
Recently, I was on Park Street (checking out the Peet’s seating area for any dropped food) just as the contractor was installing the permanent barricades around the Troy Restaurant parklet. These babies are the real deal; they are made from green concrete, not like the cheap white plastic ones that don’t work anyway.
As I was checking out the barricades, I caught a glimpse of one of Alameda’s finest birds taking a stroll down Central. I don’t usually see a solo bird motoring along, so this was somewhat of an unusual sighting. I have heard the bird flu has been going around. Maybe this bird was heading to CVS to pick up a prescription or get a vaccine?
On the way back home, I walked by this beautiful yellow blossoming bush on Paru Street at the intersection with Alameda Avenue. I don’t see this species very often. I love how the bright yellow flowers fade to a golden brown.
I also took advantage of the bowl of water that the nice folks on Willow Street left out just for me. It was very refreshing!
In kind of an odd twist, I was happy to read that Paul expressed some personal revelations. He announced to the world that he recognized he was “gorgeous” on the inside. I wondered if this was the result of some epiphany, or from years of self-exploration. Either way, congratulations, Paul!
This week, I have included a Streetcycle Pasta Special. Check out the matching Italian aprons that will get you and a friend into the mood for some great pasta. This package includes two aprons, a pasta drying rack, as well as a pasta maker. As with all our streetcycle items, my human companion will deliver the items to your Alameda address and would like see the recipient donate some “dough” (say, $25) to FAAS [8].
In a previous report, I mentioned that I was sending my human companion up to the Napa Valley Museum, on the recommendation of my good friend Tucker, to see the Warrior Dogs [10] exhibit, in recognition of K9 Veterans Day on March 13, 2024. He and I are working on a special report covering the exhibit and hope to have it ready for next Sunday. From the pictures he brought back, it was quite the emotional experience.
By the way, in case you are wondering if my human companion got a permit to do all of this construction, the answer is yes.
Until next time, this is Mouf, trying not to bark up the wrong tree.
