Happy Birthday, America

In this last report of June, I want to bid adieu to Pride month and remind everyone that there is no reason to take down that rainbow flag or sign in the window to affirm the fact that Alameda is welcoming to all.

Looking back, there was a national holiday on June 19, and I did not see yard decorations or signs acknowledging the significance of the holiday other than the one on the bank that said it would be closed in observance of Juneteenth. I know there was a concert at South Shore Shopping Center. I couldn’t make it down to the center for fear of meeting another dog and going crazy, but we all can still enjoy the celebration. There is a Youtube video [4] of all the performances.

My next report will be after the Fourth of July, so I am including holiday images to get everyone in the mood for our nation’s 249th birthday. Don’t worry if you didn’t know the exact number, neither did I. I looked it up at How Old is the USA? [6]

While there were very few decorations along my normal walking routes, I did find a few, and I expect to see more in the lead up to Friday.

I do want to let everyone know that Charlotte has her front yard at 1615 Chapin Street fully decked out for the party. You should plan on swinging by to check it out.

In other goings on, there was a blessed event a few weeks in the turkey colony. I came across this mom and her two little ones on Alameda Avenue near Chestnut Street.

Just down the street, someone decided that their kid had outgrown their toys and put them out on the curb. I walked by them at noon and by 4 p.m. they were on their way to the next toddler.

Closer to home (as in my backyard), the Santa Rosa Plum tree is full of fruit, and this week was the first harvest. This variety is my human companion’s favorite fruit. I have been tasked with standing guard to scare off any squirrels that decide to help themselves. In a few weeks, I think we will also have some Boscs coming in.

To all my canine and other species friends, I wish you the best on Friday, July 4.
