Catie Norboe, 26, is Alameda’s own reality TV star. The Alameda native is a pet sitter who is featured on the current season of the hit series 90 Day Fiancé [1]. The show documents experiences of couples who have applied for a K-1 Visa and are required to wed within 90 days. Catie’s fiancé Josh, 30, is from the UK and intends to move to Portland, Oregon to be with her and begin life in the US. Their screen time on the show has included a variety of locations throughout Alameda, including Swell Bar and Whisk Cakes, as they’ve come here to visit Catie’s family and prepare for their wedding.
The Alameda Post had a chance to catch up and interview Catie about how she became part of the show and her love for the town she grew up in. Here’s what she had to say.
[2]How did you end up on 90 Day Fiancé?
I found a casting call online and saw that they were looking for couples in the process of applying for a K-1 fiancé visa to bring their international partner to the United States. Josh is from Cambridge, England, and we were already in the process of applying for his K-1 visa, so we fit the requirements. I thought it sounded like a fun experience, so we decided to apply, and we ended up being selected!
I actually hadn’t watched the show before applying, but I was familiar with it. When I was at UC Davis, I interned at the California National Primate Research Center, and some of my coworkers would watch 90 Day Fiancé in the lab and were really into it. It’s funny that years later I ended up being on the show myself.
What’s your favorite thing about Alameda?
I grew up in Alameda and lived there until I graduated high school in 2016 and moved to UC Davis for college. I loved growing up there, especially the sense of community and how walkable everything is. Growing up, you could almost always find me on Park Street drinking boba with my friends. I still come back to visit a couple of times a year, and I love running along Shore Line and walking around the neighborhoods. Alameda will always feel like home to me.
[3]What are some of your favorite businesses and restaurants in Alameda?
I love the OG Alameda businesses. Obviously, Tucker’s is a must-visit, and their green tea ice cream is my favorite. Growing up, I used to frequent Rocket Reuse and Lauren’s Closet. More recently, I’ve enjoyed getting my nails done with my grandma at Leann’s Nails, and Josh, my family, and I had a lot of fun wedding cake tasting at Whisk Cake Creations [4].
We appreciate Catie giving us this exclusive interview and wish her and Josh all the best! You can watch their journey on season 12 of 90 Day Fiancé on TLC, and follow the show [5] and Catie [6] on Instagram.
