A Canine Christmas

Bear’s-Eye View of Alameda – December 17, 2023

One of the great things about being the Roving Reporter for the Bear’s-Eye View of Alameda is the opportunity to do special reports. This is where I get to do a deep dive in a “pet” project of mine. Pun intended.

This week’s special report covers all the canine-related holiday displays I have seen over the past two weeks, and believe me, there are a lot! I found over 30 displays that I assembled into a two-minute video.

As most of you know, my role model, and the canine I look up to most, is Snoopy, and I am happy to report that there were many Peanuts displays featuring this most famous of beagles. I grouped them all together in the second part of the video. One of the images is a copy of the CVS pharmacy special Snoopy doll. It hit the shelves a few weeks ago and sold out immediately at the $19.99 price. Now, they are being offered on eBay ranging from a low of $38.00 to a high of $299!

Special Reports require special features, and this one is no different. I got a copy of the Barking Dogs doing “Jingle Bells” and used it for the soundtrack. Unfortunately, some of the report got edited by my human companion and publisher for something more mainstream. So much for freedom of the press.

This week I will take a bunch of walks on Thompson Avenue a.k.a. Alameda’s Christmas Tree Lane [2]. Look for my full coverage and probably another video in next Sunday’s holiday report.

Tick Tock: Christmas Eve is seven days from today. Too late for meaningful holiday shopping. You human companions need to get out there right now and get your favorite canine a meaningful chew toy or special box of treats.

Also, don’t forget about all the animals at the Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter [4] that will be spending the holidays without a human companion or forever home. Please think about doing a possible holiday foster or a donation. The website is open 24/7—including holidays—to accept monetary donations.

Happy holidays,

Bear's paws
