Measure B is Essential – Letter to the Editor

To the Editor:

I write to share some of the reasons why I am voting YES on Measure B in the upcoming election on June 7, and to encourage you to do the same.

Measure B is a bond measure that will allow the district to borrow money and pay it back over time. With those funds, the district will make major, visible improvements in our school sites. These improvements include significant updates to Otis Elementary, Lincoln and Wood Middle Schools, and Alameda and Encinal High Schools. They will also benefit sports, swimming, and performing arts for the entire Alameda community.

Measure B is a bond – which means it’s like a loan. That allows the district to borrow money to make necessary upgrades now, and pay it back over time. This is how all school districts in California finance capital improvements, and it is time-tested. Indeed, this is the exact same way that our school district paid to renovate Alameda and Encinal High Schools and transform them into the beautiful, historic schools we now all enjoy. We need Measure B to finish the job at the high schools and bring similar upgrades to Otis, Lincoln, and Wood.

If you are interested in learning more about the bond, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me or to review the site plans at https://www.strongalamedaschools.com/plans [2]. You can also sign up on the website to volunteer or get a lawn sign.

Every PTA in Alameda has endorsed Measure B, because PTAs know that bond money is essential to making these improvements in Alameda schools. I ask you to join PTAs across the island and vote YES on Measure B.
