All lanes in the Posey Tube—including the pedestrian and bike path—will be closed for construction from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., Monday through Friday, March 2-6, according to CalTrans.
[1]Traffic will be re-routed via Lincoln Avenue to Park Street and 1-880 (see map). A shuttle will be provided for pedestrians and bicyclists—Alameda pickup/dropoff is located on the path at Mariner Square Drive south of the Posey portal; Oakland pickup/drop off is located at the corner of Fourth and Harrison streets.
The scheduled construction work in Alameda includes repairing damaged concrete and improving the roadway surface on the Posey Tube bridge deck and approaches. Mariner Square Loop improvements include:
- Roadway and circulation improvements.
- Sidewalk and curb ramp improvements between Webster Street and Willie Stargell Avenue.
CalTrans advises allowing extra travel time during the closure.
Work on the Oakland side will involve preparation and staging, including installation of construction signage, detour and wayfinding signs, temporary striping configurations, establishing work zones, and placement of K-rail along the right side of Oak Street. Traffic impacts are expected to be limited during this early setup period, according to Caltrans.
Coming next month
The next phase of construction—Webster Tube walkway improvements—is scheduled to begin on April 1. It is expected to involve pedestrian detours and lane restrictions Sundays to Thursday nights, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., for six months. CalTrans will issue an advisory notice when final closure schedules and traffic control details are confirmed.
