During a recent probation compliance check, Alameda Police Department (APD) officers visited the residence of an individual on probation for felony identity theft and found evidence that led to an arrest, according to an APD report [1] on Facebook.
[2]Officers found multiple fraudulent forms of identification, ID manufacturing equipment, and other items in violation of the individual’s probation terms. Refund checks, credit cards, blank checks, and narcotics were also located. K9 Ace assisted in the search and found a firearm and ammunition.
The individual on probation was taken into custody for multiple offenses.
[3]In recent weeks, APD officers and detectives have made multiple arrests connected to fraud and scams. The APD report reminded the public to “take the necessary steps to protect yourself and your finances.” The recommendations are:
- Destroy bank statements, bills, and other sensitive documents before disposing of them.
- Create strong passwords.
- Add an extra layer of protection by enabling multi-factor authentication.
- Regularly monitor your financial accounts and credit reports.
- Immediately report any suspicious activities to the proper authorities.
- If anything suspicious is found, consider freezing your credit to help prevent new accounts from being opened in your name.
“Early action can limit harm and help protect your financial future,” the report stated. “APD remains committed to investigating financial crimes and supporting those impacted by fraud.”
