Pour Your HeART Out

Maze Daiko will be the headliner for Pour Your HeART Out, an annual fundraiser presented by Rhythmix Cultural Works to support arts education for Alameda County youth, on Saturday, August 1, from 2 to 5 p.m. The popular event, held at Rhythmix, 2513 Blanding Avenue, features food, wine, and live performance,

“Get ready for an unforgettable afternoon!” Rhythmix promises. “Enjoy live music, savor delicious bites from Alameda’s amazing local eateries, sip on fine wines and craft beverages, dance to irresistible beats, and support arts education for Alameda County youth.”

This year’s event features a dynamic lineup of world-class performers, featuring Maze Daiko, an Alameda-based ensemble known for blending Japanese taiko with global rhythms—from African marimba and djembe to Persian santur and Brazilian percussion. Their powerful, genre-defying sound has earned them recognition as true pioneers of contemporary taiko.

Also featured on the bill is AZA, whose music fuses traditional North African Tamazight styles with global influences. With rich rhythms, intricate melodies, and soulful vocals, AZA delivers performances that are as visually captivating as they are musically compelling.

Food, beverages, and the wine raffle start at 2 p.m., with performances following at 2:30 with AZA and 4:15 with Maze Daiko.

Ten tables and 20 individual seats will be available at Early Bird pricing through June 15 or until sold out. The discounted early purchase price for a table for eight is $1,032; individual seats will be $154 each. Prices include all service fees.

String & Shadow Puppet Theater

String & Shadow Puppet Theater returns to Alameda with a brand-new production, Night at the Grand Opera, on Friday, August 14, 6:30 p.m., at Jean Sweeney Open Space Park, 1925 Sherman Street.

Set in an old European opera house during the golden age of Grand Opera, Night at the Grand Opera is a frenzied romp, Rhythmix promises. Rococo extravagance is fashioned with elaborate cardboard sets that collapse and unfold to reveal the many great dramas of the opera house — not all of which happen on stage. Love triangles, converging revolutionary plots, art-loving flies and disaffected vermin are brought to life with cardboard and papier-mache.

Suggestion donations are $20 for adults, $10 for children, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds.

String & Shadow Puppet Theater is presented in partnership with the City of Alameda as part of the Rhythmix in the Parks free family concert and festival series, bringing people of all ages together to experience and explore music, dance, visual art and educational opportunities all summer long in Alameda City Parks.
