One of the Rotary Club of Alameda’s [1] core beliefs is that strong communities are built when local organizations have the resources they need to serve others. Each year, the club puts that belief into action through its Community Grants Program, providing financial support to nonprofits that make Alameda a healthier, more vibrant, and more connected place to live.
[2]This year, the club awarded a total of $50,000 in community grants through two distinct programs designed to address different nonprofit needs.
The first is the club’s Annual Community Grants Program, which distributed $30,000 among a broad range of Alameda-serving organizations. These grants are intentionally spread across many nonprofits because Rotary recognizes that no single organization can address every community need. Instead, the program seeks to support the remarkable diversity of missions represented throughout Alameda—from food security and youth development, to arts education, history, and services for vulnerable populations.
This year’s Annual Community Grant recipients includes:
- Alameda Food Bank.
- The Feather House Foundation.
- Shelter in Peace, Inc.
- Bay Area Music Project.
- Alameda Museum.
- All Good Living Foundation.
- California Historical Radio Society.
- Alameda Family Services.
- Alameda Boys & Girls Club.
- Alameda Civic Ballet.
- Friends of Alameda Animal Shelter.
- Friends of the Alameda Free Library.
- USS Hornet Sea, Air & Space Museum.
- Bay Area Creative presents: Alameda Breakers.

- Radium Presents.
- Alameda Meals on Wheels.
- LMS Music Boosters.
- West End Arts District.
- Rhythmix Cultural Works.

Collectively, these organizations touch nearly every corner of Alameda life. They provide meals to seniors and families facing food insecurity, support arts and culture programs, preserve local history, offer educational opportunities for youth, create recreational opportunities for people with disabilities, care for animals, strengthen neighborhoods, and provide critical social services.
In addition to the annual grants, the Rotary Club of Alameda was in the position to offer a One-Time Community Grant to fund a significant capital project for a single nonprofit. This year’s $20,000 grant was awarded to the Alameda Point Collaborative.
The grant will support renovations to one of the organization’s youth education centers. These centers provide safe spaces where children receive academic, emotional, and social support, along with enrichment activities designed to help them grow into confident and capable adults.
The Rotary-funded improvements will transform the facility into a more welcoming and effective learning environment. Planned upgrades include opening the space to better support educational programming, renovating the kitchen area so healthy meals and cooking classes can be offered, and enhancing the garden area with planters where children can learn about nutrition and grow their own food. The improvements will create opportunities for learning, healthy living, and outdoor engagement for the youth who rely on the center.
Funding for these grants comes from several sources, including the Rotary Club of Alameda’s annual Lobster Dinner fundraiser [3], the generosity of local sponsors, support from the Alameda Rotary Endowment Foundation, and contributions from individual Rotarians.
While Rotary is often recognized for hands-on service projects and volunteerism, the Community Grants Program demonstrates another important way local residents can create impact. Through fundraising events, sponsorships, charitable giving, and community partnerships, Rotarians help channel resources directly to organizations that are already doing important work throughout Alameda.
The result is a multiplier effect: Every dollar raised by Rotary helps strengthen programs that support thousands of Alameda residents each year.
As the Rotary Club of Alameda looks ahead, it remains committed to investing in the nonprofit organizations that help make our city such a special place to live. Community members who would like to support these efforts can do so by participating in Rotary fundraisers, many of which are advertised on the club’s website [4], Facebook page [5], and in the Alameda Post. Those interested in becoming more directly involved in community service are also encouraged to learn more about Rotary membership and the many opportunities it offers to make a difference both locally and around the world.
