After several weeks of tracking the shipment of my campaign signs, they finally arrived this week, and I have been busier than a long-tailed cat in a rocking chair factory getting around town to deliver them to my supporters. The campaign is going really well, and people I meet on the street say they are voting for me because I want a new animal shelter. While I plan to continue the fight for a new building, I am stepping up my efforts to at least get a second bathroom in the current shelter.

Just as a reminder, I will deliver a MOUF FOR MAYOR sign to anyone who makes a $50 donation to the Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter (FAAS). This week, I spent some time in the Park Street area enjoying the last morning of calm before the “first day of school” storm. The downtown sidewalk was getting a good water-blast cleaning. I asked the blaster person what the black spots were, and he said, “Mostly gum.” I thought that was kinda gross. Thank you Downtown Alameda for cleaning our sidewalks and making the downtown area a great place to hang out. P.S. – Could you tell the janitorial crew to leave a few scraps of food under the tables in front of Peet’s and Starbucks? I am happy to donate my time to clean those up.

I will be covering the first day of school activity next week after I recover from my lunchtime trip to The Star on Park when school let out for lunch. OMG! Pro Tip: If you want to dine at an eatery near Alameda High School, you may want to do it before 12:30 p.m. or after 1:30 p.m.

While I was checking all the great smells, I noticed not one but two of my colleagues hanging out in coffee shops. They both look like they could use a shot of espresso, if you ask me. Mornings can be tough.

In last week’s report, I covered the various signs that Alameda is slipping into fall. I want to add another sign of fall, or at least a sign that school is in. I feel sorry for the folks that don’t know—or maybe don’t care—about the consequences of blocking a fire hydrant. I guess if you are running late for class, it’s worth the gamble. I walked by this car later, and the driver was not so lucky. I saw the piece of paper and the courtesy envelope under the windshield wiper. A courtesy envelope? How convenient.
