The Alameda Education Foundation [1] (AEF [2]) is hosting its second annual Back 2 School BBQ [3] on Thursday, September 19, to benefit programs for Alameda students and teachers. The barbecue, which will feature “Island style” music from Ukulenny [4] along with a silent auction and raffle, will be held at The Rake at Admiral Maltings [5], 651A West Tower Ave., Alameda Point, from 5 to 8 p.m.
Proceeds from the event will support AEF programs including:
- Teacher Mini Grants [7].
- Backpacks and supplies for low-income students [8].
- Middle School Sports [9].
- Mental Health Care support [10].
- Enrichment After School Classes [11] and Summer Camps [12].
- Visual Arts Programs [13].
Tickets are $75, including a plate of BBQ or vegan options plus a drink. The evening also includes a silent auction featuring unique Alameda oriented items including Golf at the Olympic Club, Pizza with AUSD [14] Superintendent Pasquale Scuderi [15], and more. The raffle prize is $500 in Southwest Airlines tickets.
According to Board President Kelly Scott, AEF’s goal is to raise $50,000 for AEF’s equity-centered supports and programs. “Thanks to our generous sponsors, 100% of every penny earned goes to supporting AUSD students and teachers,” Scott said.
A complete list of sponsors and ticket information is available on the AEF BBQ [3] website. AEF also offers the opportunity for community members to donate to an educator fund so that “we can treat our hardworking educators to a fun night out,” Scott noted.
Alameda Education Foundation is a nonprofit that has been supporting public education in Alameda since 1982 and provides close to a million dollars in financial and program support for AUSD annually.
