Update – Water service restored, open again to traffic.
Shortly before 7 p.m. Wednesday evening, the City of Alameda issued two AC Alerts about Lincoln Ave. from High St. to Versailles Ave. The first [1] says the street between 2929 and 3001 Lincoln Ave will be closed to traffic until further notice to repair a sink hole. The second [2] states that non-emergency water services will be shut down for an extended period of time on Lincoln Ave. from High St. to Versailles Ave. and surrounding areas.

Update: Friday, August 4, 8:15 a.m. Two more AC Alerts were issued, stating that Lincoln Avenue is open to traffic in both directions, and that water service has been restored.
Update: Thursday, August 3, 3:20 p.m. Dennis Evanosky visited the site of the sinkhole on Lincoln Avenue, and found the roadwork to be mostly complete, but the block is not yet open to traffic.
[6]Update: Thursday, August 3, 2:30 p.m. EBMUD’s alert page no longer lists an active alert at the site.
Update: Thursday, August 3, 9:40 a.m. The current status on EBMUD.com states water service is disrupted for 39 services on Lincoln Avenue, Gibbon Drive and Versailles Avenue. Both lanes of traffic are shutdown from 2929 to 3001 Lincoln Avenue. Water restoration is estimated for 12:00 p.m today.
Update: 9:15 p.m. Alameda Fire Department posted this photo [7] and others of the scene to their social media, stating the sinkhole was caused by a water main breaking and clarified that residents in the area along Lincoln Avenue from High Street to Versailles Avenue as well as Fountain Street from Santa Clara Avenue to Lincoln Avenue should expect a disruption in water service.
