Driver and victim both Alameda residents
A 59-year-old Alameda woman was struck and killed on Wednesday evening, January 15, at the intersection of Ralph Appezzato Memorial Parkway and Coral Sea Street, according to an Alameda Police Department (APD) report on Facebook.

Just before 6:30 p.m on Wednesday, January 15, the Alameda Police Department responded to a report of a collision involving a pedestrian and a motorist, the report stated.
“Upon arrival, officers located a 59-year-old woman in the roadway with life-threatening injuries,” the report noted. “Emergency personnel transported her to a local hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.”
The driver was a 70-year-old man, also an Alameda resident, who remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation, APD said.
“The preliminary investigation suggests the pedestrian was crossing Ralph Appezzato Memorial Parkway as the motorist was making a westbound turn when the collision occurred,” the police report stated. “However, the exact cause of the collision has yet to be determined. The investigation is ongoing and we are unable to release additional information at this time. Our heartfelt condolences are with the pedestrian’s loved ones and friends.”
Community members expressed their condolences in the comments and thanked APD for sharing the report “in such a thoughtful way.”
